Go to our System Map page for a detailed view of the pipeline.
The Plantation system consists of approximately 3,100 miles of petroleum products pipelines connected to 130 shipper terminals in 8 states. These delivery terminals are owned by petroleum refiners, marketers, military, and commercial fuel users. Products are tendered to our system from 9 refineries in Mississippi and Louisiana, from other products pipeline systems, and via marine facilities on the Mississippi River. Deliveries of motor gasoline, diesel and home heating fuels, aviation gasolines, kerosenes, commercial and military jet fuels total more than 20 million gallons each day.
Products are received in minimum batches of 25,000 barrels (1,050,000 gallons) and shipped through lines ranging in size from 6-inches to 30-inches in diameter. A batch leaving Baton Rouge, Louisiana may travel as much as 1,100 miles to reach a final destination such as Washington National or Dulles airports. Total travel time for such a trip is approximately 20 days. Products can be efficiently transported from Baton Rouge to a shipper's facility in Washington, D.C. for approximately two cents per gallon.

Plantation Pipe Line Company holds easements or written agreements with landowners that allow us to operate and maintain our pipelines through the landowner's property. A change in ownership of the property does not alter the agreement. The easement gives us the right to access the pipeline area or "right-of-way". Plantation's right-of-way must remain free of encroachments such as trees, buildings, concrete slabs, swimming pools, and other structures to ensure the safety of the public, the environment, and the pipeline.
Since the pipelines are buried underground, the line markers are used to show their
approximate location. Markers are located at public roads, rail crossings, and many other
points along the pipeline route. These line markers list the product transported, the name
of the pipeline operator, and a telephone number where someone can be reached at all
times. Defacing, damaging, or destroying a line marker willfully and knowingly is a
federal offense. Violators may receive a $5,000 fine and/or 1 year imprisonment.
Pipeline markers do not indicate the exact location nor depth of the pipe. Therefore, before beginning any construction activity near the pipeline such as installing fences, swimming pools, landscaping, ground clearing, deep plowing, drilling, blasting, etc., call the local One Call Center. The One Call Center will notify us and other affected companies in the area of your project. One of our employees will come out to the site and mark the exact location, route, and depth of our pipeline(s) across the property. By taking time to call the One Call Center, you can prevent an accident, injury, or possibly death.
If you are aware of any activities that resulted in pipeline being struck or contacted, no matter how small the damage to the pipeline seems, call 1-800-510-5678. It is essential that we evaluate and make any necessary repairs to our pipeline(s).
